In the trial area, apples dropped under the trees were counted just after commercial harvest. Trees treated with an APH™ seaweed extract dropped 19.4% less fruit than Control trees (standard practices). Fruit on the treated trees held on to the tree better and had potential to gain more size and color, meaning higher marketable yield.

APH™ seaweed extract improves nutrient levels in plant tissues and results in increased plant vigour and fewer physiological disorders.

Apples from trees treated with an APH™ seaweed extract had higher level of calcium compared to Control fruit. Calcium deficiency leads to physiological disorders such as bitterpit. APH™ seaweed extract helps with calcium uptake and lessens symptoms of the disorder – see graph below.

Apples from trees treated with an APH™ seaweed extract showed fewer symptoms of bitterpit. Honeycrisp is a variety that is highly susceptible to this disorder.

Apples from trees treated with an APH™ seaweed extract had better colour compared to Control. The results above show increased average colour rating in Pink Lady apples treated with an APH™ seaweed extract.

A field trial conducted for several years showed a consistency of improvement in Jonagold apples colour when the trees were treated with an APH™ seaweed extract. When our product was combined with Prohydrojasmon (PDJ), a synergy was created for even more improvement to the colour of the apples.

IMPROVED FRUIT SIZE AND YIELD

Trees treated with APH™ seaweed extract yielded more Gala apples in most size categories. Additionally, the size of the fruit increased as seen by the shift of fruit size distribution towards larger sizes. These improvements in yield and quality will result in increased grower revenue.

Red Delicious apples from trees treated with an APH™ seaweed extract were firmer compared to Control at harvest time as well as after 6 weeks in storage. This result indicates a better quality of the treated fruit and longer shelf life.

• Pre-pink (foliar)
• Pink bud (foliar)
• 7-10 days after petal fall (foliar)
• 1.25-2.0 cm fruit
• Every 30 days until harvest
