Greenhouse Peppers
Growing greenhouse peppers is an intensive task. Protect your investment by adding Acadian Plant Health’s seaweed extract to your program. Our seaweed extract helps establish pepper plants by improving root growth and improving plants’ ability to tolerate transplant stress. Once established, APH™ seaweed extract helps them to uptake the nutrients effectively resulting in more fruit, better size and quality. The combined result is increased yield and gross revenue.
BENEFITS FOR GREENHOUSE PEPPERS INCLUDE:
- Better rooting
- Improved nutrient levels
- Increased fruit number
- Enhanced size and quality
- Higher yield
SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN, FIELD-TESTED SOLUTIONS
IMPROVED CALCIUM LEVELS
HYDROPONIC SWEET RED PEPPER TRIAL ‘MORRAINE’
NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA
A replicated greenhouse sweet red pepper study found that APH™ seaweed extract increased fruit calcium resulting in 64% decrease in cumulative blossom-end-rot incidence tracked for 273 days after planting (DAP). Results indicate that our seaweed extract may influence the calcium uptake and translocation.
Tissue analyses indicated higher tissue calcium levels in plants treated with APH™ seaweed extract when compared to Control plants. Environmental factors that trigger blossom-end rot and interfere with calcium distribution within the plant result in less calcium in the fruit. The treated plants capture and distribute calcium more efficiently leading to reduced calcium deficiency.
IMPROVED FRUIT NUMBER AND SIZE
HYDROPONIC SWEET RED PEPPER TRIAL ‘MORRAINE’
NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA
This image shows a weekly harvest from the two treatments. Note the greater number of fruit and increased fruit size of peppers harvested from plants treated with our seaweed extract.
The cumulative fruit number of peppers treated with APH™ seaweed extract was 12% higher in this experiment. The increase in yield (see below) was greater than the increase in the fruit number indicating that treated peppers were on average heavier than Control peppers.
IMPROVED QUALITY
HYDROPONIC SWEET RED PEPPER TRIAL ‘MORRAINE’
NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA
Adding APH™ seaweed extract produced more fruit in the Fancy category and less culls compared to Control. Peppers in the Fancy category are large and perfectly shaped. Fruits from the Other category are smaller and less than perfectly shaped. Culls are not marketable.
IMPROVED YIELD
HYDROPONIC SWEET RED PEPPER TRIAL ‘MORRAINE’
NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA
The cumulative yield of peppers treated with APH seaweed extract was 20.6% higher than Control.
IMPROVED GROWER REVENUE
HYDROPONIC SWEET RED PEPPER TRIAL ‘MORRAINE’
NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA
Gross revenue was compared between the APH™ seaweed extract treatment and the Control for the first 7 weeks of harvest. Based on US $30 per 15-lb box of Fancy and US $15 per 15-lb box of Other, the treated plots provided a 35.3% increase in gross revenue due to increased fruit number and quality. The difference in revenue was US $7,605 per hectare (US $3,079 per acre).
