Tomatoes
Acadian Plant Health™ (APH™) seaweed extracts improve yield and quality of fruiting vegetables thanks to enhanced root growth and nutritional uptake as well as improved tolerance to environmental stresses. Not only do these improvements enhance yield, but also reduce culls caused by blossom end rot.
BENEFITS FOR TOMATOES INCLUDE:
- Strong growth during the establishment period
- Improved abiotic stress resistance
- Improved nutrient levels
- Less culls caused by blossom end rot
- Increased yield
SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN, FIELD-TESTED SOLUTIONS
IMPROVED EARLY DEVELOPMENT
TOMATO TRIAL ‘MOUNTAIN FRESH’
NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA
In a greenhouse trial on tomatoes, 14 days after transplanting to cell packs, the young plants treated with APH™ seaweed extract had visibly more roots than the control plants.
TOMATO TRIAL ‘UCB2 PROCESSING TOMATO’
CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES
Crops with larger root systems take up nutrients more efficiently, which contributes to better overall plant development. Note the larger, fuller tomato plants in rows treated with APH™ seaweed extract.
IMPROVED NUTRIENT LEVELS
TOMATO TRIAL ‘CRISTA’
MARYLAND, UNITED STATES
Means followed by the same letter are not different, p<0.05.
In this trial, the researchers studied tomato plants grown with a standard nutrition program as well as plants grown using a reduced-nitrogen program. When an APH™ seaweed extract was added, the nitrate concentration in petiole sap was higher in the treated plants under both levels of nitrogen.
LESS CULLS
TOMATO TRIAL ‘MOUNTAIN FRESH’
MARYLAND, UNITED STATES
Means followed by the same letter are not different, p<0.05.
Blossom end rot in tomato fruit is a physiological disorder that occurs when the crop is not able to efficiently move calcium to the fruit. Often this is caused by stress. Tomatoes affected by this disorder are discarded. In this field trial, there were fewer fruit affected by this disorder among fruit harvested from tomato plants treated with APH™ seaweed extract compared to control.
IMPROVED ABIOTIC STRESS RESISTANCE
TOMATO TRIAL ‘TINY TIM’
NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA
In this greenhouse trial, tomato plants were subjected to drought stress. Plants treated with APH™ seaweed extract retained more fruit than the control plants.
